Mühltal, May 1st 2004 Dear Debbie, what a glorious day today! While here it has been raining all day, blue sky and sunshine in Ireland. 25 heads of State celebrating the new members of the European Union. I must admit when I saw all these 25 flags rising at the same time with the European anthem being played, I had tears in my eyes. It was a great moment. To see that after two World Wars and the fall of the Iron Curtain these 25 European nations are united at last and "become brothers" as the anthem, Beethoven´s Ode to joy says. I only hope that Europe does not forget that the U.S.A., too, belong to the family. Thinking of you, love Karin
