Mühltal, March 13th 2004 Dear Debbie, my thoughts are with the families of the victims of 3/11 in Madrid! What an incredible crime against humanity – when looking at the pictures of destruction I find it hard to hold back my tears ... But when reading the local newspaper "Darmstädter Echo" (March 13th 2004, page 25), my sadness changes into anger. People are being interviewed about the terrible terrorist attacks in Madrid and one woman, 35-years old, exactly my age, on the photo she looks just like any "normal" young woman, is quoted with the following words: "I do not believe that ETA or Al Qaida are responsible for the terrorist attacks. I think the CIA is to blame." Reading this made me so angry and depressed at the same time, for I haven´t got a clue how this woman came to take this view and how possibly she could be made change her mind. Maybe her child will get the chance to see things more realistically? We can only hope so. Love, Karin
Dear Debbie, unfortunately the 3/11 terrorists of Madrid have exactly reached their goal: the conservative government in Spain has lost power. The blame for the terror attacks is put on Aznar, the former Spanish Prime Minister, because he supported the war in Iraq. Yesterday, it was the CIA to blame, today it is Aznar. And tomorrow? We probably do not even want to know ... Love, Karin © Karin Quade, March 13th and 15th 2004 |
