In January I predicted our Bundespräsident would step back within a few days. It took him a little longer, but yesterday he finally did step back. The day Bildzeitung openly asked him to do so, interesting coincidence, no?
The irony of all this is that a tabloid that many allegedly “more high quality” journalists look down on, did all this investigative journalism and had the courage to criticize the Bundespräsident when others still shyed away from doing so.
Irony, too, that hardly anybody in CDU (except one on the Axis of Good) asked for his resignation. You have to know that CDU is a party that theoretically stands for values. I wonder which values?
How to threaten a newspaper not to print unfavourable articles?
Or how to accept as many presents and upgrades as possible without being caught?
And how to pretend that all this is OK and stay in office as long as possible?
I don`t know. But I do hope that after this disaster a better candidate will be found. And I hope this time it will be Joachim Gauck. He would be an awesome President!
