Usually I would write about the cold now: -18 this morning!!
And at the same time Russia cutting natural gas supplies to Ukraine and thus to Europe! Where is global warming when you need it?
But this is not the moment to discuss the cold.
This is the moment to show solidarity with Israel. I am on Israel`s side, of course. It is an easy choice if on the one hand you have a Western, democratic state and on the other hand a terrorist organization. At least for me. But not for everybody.
There are people who compare the Palestinians` fate to the situation of Jews in Nazi Germany. Mmh, I do not like historical analogies very much anyway, but this one is particularly absurd. If at all you would have to compare Palestinians to Germans during the Nazi regime: The Palestinians democratically elected Hamas, the Germans democratically elected Hitler. When Germany started losing the war, German towns and cities were being bombarded by Allied Forces, many German children died. If Hitler had not come to power (probably their own parents had voted for him!) these children would still be alive. And the same is true for Palestinian children, if their parents had not voted a terrorist organization into power that has been firing thousands of rockets into Israel during the last years (and by the way is still doing so!), Palestinian children would be safe. But as Hamas terrorists are hiding in schools, hospitals, or even worse are firing rockets into Israel from there, innocent children are dying. Because Hamas is unscrupulously using them as human shields. That is tragical. Saddening. Frustrating. Especially because on the other hand Israel is trying everything to avoid civilian casualties, the Israeli Air force even dropping leaflets to warn the population before striking.
That is why I believe - and to some it might sound like a contradiction -but I believe that being on Israel`s side is being on the side of Palestinian children as well. For these children will only have a better future if their parents realize that there will never be a Palestinian state against Israel, but only with Israel. When their parents realise that voting a terrorist organisation into power doesn`t lead anywhere. When their parents realise that Hamas is taking them as hostages and could not care less about their personal fate. When their parents understand that the only state in the world who could give them a State is Israel.
