The Obama Show at Siegessäule

It was the perfect show and thanks to the mayor of Berlin a spectacular place to hold such a speech. And who pays for it? Theoretically the citizens of Berlin-Brandenburg. But that is mere theory. As Klaus Wowereit put it: Berlin is “poor but sexy”, in other words bankrupt. So who pays for it? Well, [...]

Sweet Home Alabama

I have always liked this song. Reminds me of the summer 1992 spent in kibbuz Kfar Masaryk. A band of three volunteers (a guy from Britain, one from Switzerland and the third from Denmark) were playing it all summer long. And “All Summer long”, the Kid Rock version of Sweet Home Alabama, is the number [...]

More Words of wisdom by Randy Pausch

More words of wisdom from Randy Pausch`s “Last Lecture”:
- Never underestimate the importance of having fun. I’m dying and I’m having fun. And I’m going to keep having fun every day because there’s no other way to play it.
-Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.
-No one is pure evil. Find [...]

Obamodesty?

Obama said he came to Berlin as a citizen:
“I come to Berlin as so many of my countrymen have come before. Tonight, I speak to you not as a candidate for President, but as a citizen - a proud citizen of the United States, and a fellow citizen of the world.”
I thought that was really [...]

Obama at Victory Column

I was glad when I heard that Obama had dropped his initial plan to speak at the Brandenburg Gate. Now he is going to speak at the Siegessäule (=Victory Column). I do not know, but isn`t that a little premature?

If I had a million dollars

After having installed underfloor heating (no air-conditioning ;-) all over in my house, I would show some of the entrepreneurial spirit that Germany is lacking so badly and employ an assistant (computer specialist, broad shoulders ;-) to do all the technical stuff regarding my blog. Because I do not like doing this. And this.
Update July [...]

Help! My blog looks awful

And I swear I have not done anything! But apparently it is something Wordpress has done:
We’ve gone through great lengths to make this as painless as possible for theme authors.
Thank you!

Obama-Gate

“Obama Hasn`t Earned A Place At Berlin Gate” by Charles Krauthammer, July 17, 2008, IBD Editorials:

Barack Obama wants to speak at the Brandenburg Gate. He figures it would be a nice backdrop. (…)
What Obama does not seem to understand is that the Brandenburg Gate is something you earn.
President Reagan earned the right to speak there [...]

Bundeswehr yes, Obama no!

One should never underestimate the power of protest. I am very happy to see that in Berlin it has worked twice this week:
1. The swearing-in-ceremony of our Federal Armed Forces is going to take place in front of Reichstag.
2. Obama is not going to hold a speech at the Brandenburg Gate.
Yes, we can!
