Today is Holocaust Memorial Day. But I am afraid it did not get the attention it deserves here in Germany:
First, the hour of remembrance in the German Bundestag was already held on January 25th.
Second, today elections were held in Hesse and Lower-Saxony and the results at least in Hesse are really close.
Third, hold your breath, [...]
I am just reading in Die WELT that the German Bundeswehr soldiers have to separate waste in Afghanistan. Although outside of their military camp this waste is put into one big garbage can. I am also reading that there are speed checks and if they exceed 15 km per hour they might well get a [...]
I have just read a newspaper article in my local newspaper “Darmstädter Echo” about a demonstration that took place in Darmstadt last weekend. The motto was “Live nicer without Nazis and racism”. And my first thought was that I might have attended because I am against Nazis, too. But then I went on reading and [...]
“Keynote Address at the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum”
Secretary Condoleezza Rice, Davos, Switzerland, January 23, 2008.
Excerpt:
(…) As we work for a more just economic order, we must also work to promote a freer and more democratic world – a world that will one day include a democratic Cuba, a democratic Burma, [...]
Last weekend I went to see “The Kite Runner”. A beautiful strong movie about two boys, their childhood in Afghanistan, love and friendship, betrayal and redemption and a message that says: There is a way to be good again.
Excerpts from the Wikipedia summary:
Amir, a well-to-do Afghan boy, and Hassan, a Hazara (the son of [...]
“Pre-emptive nuclear strike a key option, Nato told” by Ian Traynor in Brussels, The Gurdian, January 22, 2008:
The west must be ready to resort to a pre-emptive nuclear attack to try to halt the “imminent” spread of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction, according to a radical manifesto for a new Nato by five [...]
My best friend is American. His father fought the Nazis. And he is going to Afghanistan this spring.
And you tell me America can do no right? You tell me to take off my rose-colored glasses to finally see all the bad America is doing in the world?
Imagine what Germany would look like without [...]
I do not really want to imagine how Germany would look like without America. Take just take one example:
This year is the 60th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift.
On June 24, 1948, the Soviet Union blocked access to the three Western-held sectors of Berlin by cutting off all rail and road routes going through Soviet-controlled territory [...]
Following my post on this not so nice video about me I got so many warm and friendly emails that I feel the need to now post a big THANK YOU! Thanks to all of you for showing so much support. Special thanks to Dale Hurd from CBN for his post
“Pro-American German Woman Threatened” and [...]
When searching my name in google I often get really nice results. Yesterday I discovered that my blog has been recommended by “The Shield of Achilles”, a blog run by John Rohan, a United States Army officer born in Germany and currently stationed here. The context was rather sad because “Davids Medienkritik has closed!” [...]
