Want to learn Hessian?

I have just found the ultimate Hessisch-English Dictionary “for all English speaking people who intend to make a business trip to Frankfurt and get lost somewhere between the airport and Sachsenhausen.”

Must-knows:

“Guuuude !” = Hello, nice to see you!

“Ei Guuuude wiie?” = Hello, nice to see you! How are you today?

“Isch mach weidea.” = Good bye.

“Erbaame! Zu spät! Die Hesse komme!” = Hessian National Anthem

This one really made me laugh, but you should never use it when in Offenbach:

Offebach = Frankfurt Bronx

Nice to know:

“Zuggerschneggsche” = Sweet round biscuits; also: pet name for girlfriend

I am not quite sure whether I would like to be called “Zuggerschneggsche”, no, actually I do not think so ;-)

And “Schnegge tschegge” means to watch nice girls, I have never heard this one before. I have to admit that although I am born in Hessen, grew up in Hessen and actually live in Hessen, my Hessisch-skills are quite poor. But what would the native speaker say, “lebbe geht weider” (= Don’t worry, be happy) …
