This summer I received an email by – hold your breath – a pro-American French. Yes, this species exists. Here is the proof:
Hello Karin,
I just visited your website and your blog, and I enjoyed
them.
It’s always a pleasure to find people who don’t participate in the global anti-americanism that has spread over all Europe, and that even denounce it.I live in France, and here the situation is worse than it seems to be in Germany, according to what I have read on your blog and on “Davids Medienkritik”, that I discovered thanks to your link.
Here, all the media are constantly slandering the US, and, as a result, so do the people in the streets, having been indoctrinated by those racist media for years (anti-americanism is really a new form of racism, and has a lot in common with anti-semitism, as you point it in your site).
Our new president, Sarkozy, is far better than was the ugly rabid anti-american Chirac, but this anti-american obsession has reached so high a point that I wonder if it will be able to decrease in the near future.
If you ever come to Paris, I’ll be happy to share a drink with you.
Best regards,
David L.
Le plaisir sera de mon côté!

More on anti-Americanism in France and the rest of Europe in Dale Hurd`s great CBN-report on anti-Americanism:
Part 1: “Europe`s anti-American agenda”
Excerpt:
(…) Anti-Americanism in France is neither new nor very surprising. New French President Nicholas Sarkozy, who says he actually likes America, is a notable exception, according to pro-American journalist Michel Gurfinkiel.
Gurfinkiel said, “The entire government and media structure of France take it for granted that the enemy of France and the enemy of the world is American imperialism.” (…)
Part 2: “How European media damages America”
Excerpt:
(…) In France, the French media often acts like an anti-American propaganda machine.
American novelist Nidra Poller in Paris talks about what she terms ingrained, hateful anti-Americanism.
“When you think of all the Americans who died to liberate Europe from Nazism, it’s very shameful,” she said.
Poller added, “They talk about America as a nation of vicious capitalists, indifferent to the welfare of human beings.”
When asked if the European media acted like enemies of the United States, Poller replied, “Yes, they do act like enemies. I would put their feet to the fire on that. I think it’s a big mistake that the Americans haven’t done that. If they ever get attacked, they think the Americans will help them out. So they can kick the Americans. They can’t kick the Iranians — they’re afraid of them.” (…)
