I think Al Gore deserves the Oscar. But it was the wrong category. He should have got it for best actor, not best documentary feature.
First he declared that climate change was the most important issue humankind has ever faced. Then news spread that his house used 20 times more electricity than the average American home.
No contradiction he says. To compensate for his home’s use of energy Gore buys “carbon offsets”. These work a little bit like indulgences. You make a payment to an environmentally friendly entity to compensate for personally using non-green energy. Which means the rich can go on wasting energy, the poor should better not. For a left-wing politician this does not sound very social, does it?
But that is not all: Al Gore is buying these “carbon offsets” from a firm he has co-founded and serves as chairman. The more climate change hysteria is being promoted, the better for the firm`s earnings situation.
Which means Al Gore is an ecological sinner who grants salvation to himself. And all this in a very capitalist manner …
