It is always great to meet like-minded people, but regarding the weather we have been quite unlucky today. While yesterday we had sunny blue skies in Berlin, today it was pouring with rain all afternoon, the temperatures were around 1 degree and the wind was really cold. Despite this, about one thousand people (I am bad at guessing, and do not yet have the official numbers) joined the demonstration today. We started at Alexanderplatz and marched to the Holocaust Memorial. The speeches were held nearby the Memorial, we were not allowed to have them “in” the memorial. As far as I have understood (if this is possible at all) it would have been considered as a misuse of the Memorial if we had gone there. I would have said, if there is one place in Germany to demonstrate against the destruction of Israel it would well be the Holocaust Memorial, but views seem to differ.
I really hope the speeches will soon be available online, so that I can link to them. I also want to thank the ones who have organized the demonstration: ILI and Honestly Concerned. And to the ones I met at the demonstration: It has been great meeting you! To see that there are like-minded people in this world, gives a lot of hope.
Although as always the bitter truth is: How to find a pro-Israel demonstration in Germany? Just look for the police-cars.
