Every now and then “friends” tell me that there is absolutely no anti-Americanism in Germany and that I am only seeing things. Unfortunately, their position is sometimes being strengthened by Americans living in Germany. For instance, the American ambassador who is hardly ever in the German media and who is probably not observing them very closely (?), stated last September, that he does not see any anti-Americanism here.
Well, I have just seen the results of a BBC opinion poll saying that:
German views of US influence have worsened significantly over the last year, with negative attitudes increasing from 65 to 74 percent. Only 16 percent of respondents say they have a mostly positive view of US influence in the world, down from 21 percent.
No anti-Americanism, nowhere.
