Last week I received this wonderful email:
Dear Karin,
It’s been a while since I last wrote to you about how much I love and appreciate your blog. At that time, I congratulated your for finding your friend Debbie. I remarked how touching I found it that you wrote to her in the form of letters to a friend. After reading your ‘About’ comments, I now realize that she does not share your (and certainly not my) political view of the world. I am familiar with this kind of situation and can now understand why you no longer post letters to her in English. However, I do find your insights into Germany and it’s current political situation fascinating. Might I encourage you to continue some posts in English? Your mastery of the language and clear, intelligent insights are of great interest to at least a few English-only speakers who also believe that the US and Germany should be natural allies in the preservation of Western Culture and Democratic ideals.
You could post them as ‘Dear Richard’ letters if you like. I would be honored!
In any event, I wish you and your family and friends a most joyous and prosperous new year! God Bless you and know that you have some like-minded friends in this world (even if we don’t speak your native tongue).
I’ve included some links to some fun US Navy videos that show the true spirit of our ‘tip-of-the-spear’ warriors. I use the word ‘our’ because they are fighting for all of us, but get very little in return…except the satisfaction of a job well done and some moments, like those captured in these clips, of tremendous comraderie and childish fun. TURN UP THE VOLUME!Best Regards,
Richard
P.S. Here are the links. Enjoy!

Dear Richard,
thank you so much for your email! VERY kind of you indeed. You are right, recently I have been writing more in German, but this does not mean I have forgotten the only-English speaking readers of my website. I always hoped finding the time to translate the texts into English. This would be the best anyway, to have all the posts in German and English. I am afraid though I will not be able to achieve this. But I will do my very best – promised!
And whenever I will be too angry or too saddened to write anything at all, I will re-read your email and think of the ones who are, as you rightly say, fighting for all of us.
Warm Regards,
Karin
