But according to Dirk Maxeiner and Michael Miersch who are running a weekly column in my favourite newspaper Die WELT, global warming has, somehow, taken a timeout. Bob has translated their column into English (Thank you so much, Bob!):
“With the passing of the World Soccer Cup Championship and the arriving dog days of summer, temperatures are rising - and it apparently won’t be long before we are inundated by climatic disaster. Al Gore has made a highly informative film on the topic (”An Inconvenient Truth”), and his book is taking the best-seller lists by storm. Albeit those not paying attention to the official temperature statistics of major research establishments like the British Climate Research Unit (CRU) will no doubt be perplexed. Pssssst: global warming has, somehow, taken a timeout: the planet ceased becoming warmer in 1998 - a very warm year (what is naturally extremely counter productive for the wishing-to-enlighten technocrats).
This said, we set out to investigate the incessant flow of evil tidings brought upon mankind by a global army of researchers and functionaries, compiling in so doing an assortment of some the most striking examples from our disaster-findings, rounded off with examples taken from the British Internet site “Numberwatch”. Aber Dirk Maxeiner und Michael Miersch, die eine wöchentliche Kolumne in der WELT schreiben, sind ja der Ansicht, dass die globale Erwärmung ein Päuschen einlegt.

Widmen wir uns deshalb dem unablässigen Strom der Hiobsbotschaften, die ein globales Heer von Forschern und Funktionären unters Volk bringt. Wir haben hier einmal die schönsten Exemplare aus unserer Katastrophen-Kollektion zusammengestellt und um Beispiele aus der Sammlung der britischen Internet-Seite “Numberwatch” ergänzt. Unsere “warme Liste” beweist endgültig, daß es auf dem Planeten eigentlich nichts mehr gibt, woran der Klimafrevel des Menschen nicht schuld ist (vorausgesetzt, man macht die Kausalkette lang genug). Falls Sie heute also in Ihr Auto steigen, dann kann das nach Ansicht seriöser Wissenschaftler folgende Konsequenzen haben: (…)”
